Table feeds must be varied according to conditions regarding:
  Rigidity of machine;
  Character of cut to be taken;
  Power;
  Style and strength of cutters, and;
  Shape and size of work.

Instructions:

Step 1: Locate Surface Feet per Minute (SFM) and Feet Per Tooth (FPT) for material (Table A).

Step 2: Find RPM at intersection of Surface Feet per Minute (SFM) line and diameter column (Table B).

Step 3: Locate nearest Revolutions Per Minute (RPM), read down to Feet Per Tooth (FPT) (Table C).

Then read Inches Per Minute (IPM) opposite number of teeth.

Explanation of symbols:

  SFM: Surface Feet per Minute
  RPM: Revolutions Per Minute
  FPT: Feet Per Tooth
  IPM: Inches Per Minute

Speeds may be increased when using:
  Titanium Nitride Coated +25 percent: Roughing End Mills: Increase 20 percent.
  Super Premium +20 percent: Deep Slotting: Reduce 50 percent.
  Roughing End Mills + 15 percent: Slotting: Reduce 20 percent.

The feed and speed rates should be used as a guideline. Adjustments may be required to suit individual job requirements.

1. Select SFM (Surface Feet Per Minute_ from Machinability Rating Table.

2. Convert to RPM by Selecting Machinability Rating and multiply this figure by SFM then by 3.8 then divide by cutter diameter.

For example:

M.R. (0.55) X SFM (90) X 3.8 / 2 (sample cutter diameter) = RPM

(Calculate actual RPM) = 188.11 / 2 = 94.05 RPM

3. Feed: The proper feed rate will vary with the amount of stock being removed, but generally should not exceed 0.004 inches per flute per revolution. To obtain feed rates, multiply RPM by Number Of Flutes then by feed per flute.

For example:

94.05 X 8 X 0.004 = 3.0096 Per Minute. (Refer above to Figure A).

4. Cutting Fluid: Always use a full flood of coolant to reduce temperature and flush chips.
